Evaluation #5

I have finally completed writing answers to the 4 evaluation questions and will now start making the presentations for each part.
I have been looking a lot at some of the free online presentation tools that are available and I think I came up with a shortlist of the ones I like the most:

Because there is a lot of content in each of the evaluation answers I might decide to use a different tool for each of the parts to make it feel even more engaging!!!

Evaluation #4

Today I have been continuing work on the evaluation and have finished question 2 and 4 and now I'm on track of being able to meet the deadline for the coursework which is set on the Friday of next week. I'm hoping to finish writing the script by this Friday and spend next week making the presentations of the four questions with some free online software.

I have made notes on what needs to be changed and will use them to improve my evaluation.

Evaluation #1

Today in class we started thinking about the evaluation and decided on te format we are going to present it. We have agreed that it will be most sensible for us to each make an individual evaluation using creative media software instead of recording a Directors' Comentary.
There are a number of reasons that have influenced our choice:
  • We have a very different timetables and it would be difficult to find times we could write the script together
  • If were to do the Directors' comentary, we would have to illustrate the voice over with moving images, stills and screen shots of different stages of production
  • The voice over would have to be recorded all at once
  • The final product would not feel interactive for the viewer.
I think we have made the right choice, becausethe software needed for the creative evaluation is mostly available online and can be accessed from any computer whereas, the video would have to be edited together with Final Cut Pro which is only available in the editing suit of Media Department.

Also, in my opinion the variaty of software that could be used such as Prezi, Xtra normal and vlogs will make the final presentation much more interactive and appealing.

We now have just over a week to answer the evaluation questions in essay format before starting to make the creative parts.

Survey For Audience Feedback

This is the survey we have made to gather final piece of audience feedback for the whole production package. We will use the results of this survey for our evaluation.

Constructing The CD Digipack #8

This is our front cover, we have decided to use a symbol that reates to our video the most rather than use a face of the artist, this is because, this is what the band usuay does and we wanted to make it look and fee as conventional as possible.

Constructing The CD Digipack #7

This is a disc design for our CD package. We have used the same colours on it as in the rest of the production.

Constructing The CD Digipack #6

This is the final magazine advert.

Since the last construction process shot In have decided that I did not like the fact that the effects that were apllied to the main photograph translated onto the pictures of print products and so I have decided to address the issue by remoring the layers that had those images and saving the advert only with the text and the image as a separate JPG and then openning it in a new document on PhotoShop and adding the images back in their places.
I have achieved my objective which was to get the images stay in their original state ad do not have any extra effects on them.

Constructing The CD Digipack #5

This is an inside insert I made for the CD pack. I have chosen the close-up shot image because I felt that it adds a personal feel, and I made it black&white so that it follows with the house-style of the overall print package.
I have chosen to include the lyrics of the song on here because I think it adds a point of interest to the CD pack and it also serves as an extra feature that would generate interest in the album.

Constructing The CD Digipack #4

Today I have started working on the magazine advert. So far i have chosen an image from the studio shoot that I did with the artist and started adding information such as thye release date and the album contents. Below is the evidence of the progress so far:

After adding the logo on the advert I have decided to get rid of the background of the logo, therefore, I started erising it. As for the photograph: I have adjusted the brightness, contrast and general colour balance as well as making it black&white which I have done to continue the style from the video and the covers of the CD.

After adding the contents of the album I have decided that in order to keep the text black and maintain the housestyle I have to reduce the opacity of the image to make the text standout without changing the colours.

Later I( have decided that to reinforce the text as a focus point of the page I had to enhance it's appearance further, so I added two black boxes around each piece of key information in the page and reduced the opacity of them to arouind 35% to emphesise the text further.

I have later decided to change the layout of the page completely and so I removed all the information and then laid it out inside a black box with reduced opacity to make the layout more conventional to one of my case studies: Green day.
Also at this stage I have changed the font of the song title to the same as the rest of the text and other print products.

I have then placed the images of the album in order I saw them being laid out in my case study advert.

Constructing The CD Digipack #3

Today I have finished making the back cover for our CD package. I have added effects, adjusted the brightness and fonts to make it as conventional as possible.
I have however, changed a few elements from original plan, but I have only done so that it follows as much as possible with the style and feel of the band.

Constructing The CD Digipack #2

Today we have made progress in contructing the back cover on Photoshop. We had a little struggle with adding the logo on the back cover as it needed to be edited before hand. We have finished doing that and we now only have to add the song listings.

On the final version we have also reduced the tranparency of the image to make the logo stand out more. We have also decided to get the logo back in black to maintain the colour scheme.

Constructing The CD Digipack #1

Today we have looked through and started editing the pictures from the studio-shoot on Photoshop. So far we have edited one to see how it would look edited and adjusted.
We have also started constructing our back cover, picked an image from the park-shoot and added some effects on it also on Photoshop.
We will finish this task and the magazine advert this week.

Our progress so far (back cover):

Park Landscape Shoot

These are some of the pictures I took in West Ham park-the main location we used in our video. We have decided that we might use an image of the park as a background for our CD back cover.
We will fade the image and reduce the saturation in Photoshop to make the text the focus point of the page.

Studio-Photography Completed

Today at lunch I have met up with the artist and taken series of photographs for the digipack. I have used a range of shot types but made them all in the low key lighting setting, because I believe that only low key style photographs relate and represent our chosen genre appropriately.
I have used white back-drop to bring more light into the pictures while maintaining the overall feel with the lighting setup.
I think that overall, the shoot went really well and I will not have to get any more pictures.

We have also thought that we can get a still from the video of the hat we plan to use for our front cover.

Photo-Shoot Planned

Today in class we have agreed to do a studio photoshoot for our CD pack. We have arranged and booked the studio, agreed with the artist and sorted out props for this Friday.
This will be an easy shoot and we will fit in the time frame quite nicely as we have only booked the studio for an hour but I am confident it will be sufficient.

The New Logo

This is the original logo of the band which is used in all of their albums and adverts. For the coursework we have to design our own version of this.
We have decided that we will use a font that has a similar feel. However, we have not made it look exactly like the original.

This is what we decided to use as our version of the logo which wil be used on both opur CD pack and the advert:

Ideas For The CD Pack

Audience Feedback:

  • Good link to case studies in the plans for layout
  • Maintenance of the colour scheme from the video onto the digipak was consistent
  • Idea of using studio photography in the advert was well perceived.
Changes We Made:

After planning our cover layout we have decided not to use the bird idea, instead we have thought that we would use an object that appeared in our music video for the front cover. Therefore now we will use a red hat we showed in the video so that there is a tighter link in the appearance of our print work and our video.

Planning The Layout Of The CD Cover And Digipack #2

Today in class we have started planning the layout of our CD package, we considered the use of images and decided that for the front cover we will use either a drawing or a photograph of a bird flying out of its cave as it connotes lyrics of our song from the music video.
